Greetings!
My name is Cathleen, and I am a mother to two beautiful
daughters, ages 15 and 22.
I have been involved in the fitness industry for over 20 years,
teaching a variety of Group Exercise classes. Recently I have added
personal training to my repertoire, and it is such a joy to be able
to help others reach their personal goals as they strive to improve
their health and well-being through strength-training. This is a
subject that is particularly dear to me, since it was bodybuilding
that saved my life.
I have been dealing with anorexia since the age of 13. By my
late thirties, the eating disorder had such a stranglehold on me
that my health began to decline. I fought to continue teaching
aerobics as long as I could; but in the spring of 2000 I was forced
to enter a residential treatment center for around-the-clock care
and monitoring, including a feeding tube. It was so hard to leave
my daughters for a month, but it was very necessary.
Upon my release, in order to prevent a relapse, I began
strength-training. This forced me to focus on the need to take in
adequate high-quality calories in order to build muscle. I also
wanted to show our daughters that I was committed to staying alive
for them, and that anything can be accomplished through hard work
and diligence.
In 2005, at the age of 44, I entered my first competition. I
took third place, which to me was miraculous, considering where I'd
been a few short years before! Since that time, I have entered 8
competitions, and have been blessed with 15 trophies, several of
them first place.
We teach our daughters to strive for excellence and not
perfection, and bodybuilding has enabled me to be a living example
of this.
Thank You!
